McLaren F1 new 2010

Way back in the early 90′s, I was an absolutely huge fan of Formula 1 (zeolot is the more accurate term, but I’ve grown up a bit since then), religiously staying up until the early hours of the morning to watch the entire F1 race season broadcast live from its respective country. The fascination went far beyond a bunch of cars doing laps around a track under the control of a bunch of very highly paid (and skilled) drivers. It extended to the vehicles themselves, the engines, the computational telemetry, the pit crews, the team structure and most of all the psychology behind it all. I loved (and still do) the technology, the fanatical focus on process and relentless drive to develop faster, better, more effective and more efficient ways of being more reliable, more competitive and ultimately more justifiable to the sponsors which shell out tens of millions of dollars in sponsorship money in the expectation of high profile media coverage.
Back in June, Top Gear – one of the best shows on television – pitted a Bugatti Veyron against a McLaren F1 in a one-mile race. For the car nuts, this is about as good as it gets. For those who aren’t hip to the car scene, allow me to educate you a bit before you watch the clip…
Bugatti VeyronThe Bugatti Veyron is the fastest production car ever built. It features a 16-cylinder engine with 4 turbochargers that produces 1001 horsepower. This amazing power plant propels the car from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 253 miles per hour. That’s one third the speed of sound at sea level in a car that you can drive every day. The car is price, and you can have one of your very own.The McLaren F1 was built in the late 90′s, and was – at the time – the world’s fastest production car. Unlike the more lavishly appointed Veyron, the McLaren was a lightweight, no-frills machine. It was McLaren F1powered by a naturally aspirated, BMW-built V12 making 627 horsepower which helped the car reach 60 MPH in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 240 MPH. When new, the McLaren F1 had a base price of $970,000. A total of 71 road versions were built, and the few which have been resold have
Leave it to the folks at Top Gear to arrange a mile-long drag race between these two amazing automobiles. While probably not the best gauge of any car’s true performance, it’s fun to see three and a half million dollars worth of supercars flying down a straightaway. What’s more amazing is the sleek front engine frame with its dashing headlight that gives the car the look of mischief. With its doors opening vertically you can just step into the interior of the car without

The Toyota Prius finally has some competition in the ultra-green category. Honda has begun the consumer test run of it’s zero-emission hydrogen car, the FCX Clarity. About 200 select drivers will be able to lease the Clarity for $600 a month, but only in California. They’re limiting the cars to California because that state has the most developed infrastructure of hydrogen refueling stations. There will be more added in time, but as for now, only Cali residents like Jamie Lee Curtis and Hollywood producer Ron Yerxa are able to drive hydrogen. The FCX Clarity costs about $20 to fill up, gets a combined fuel economy equivalent to 74 mpg (three times the fuel efficiency of a modern gasoline-powered automobile), and has a driving range up to 280 miles. The Clarity is powered by an electric motor that runs on the electricity generated in the hydrogen fuel cell. And just like all hydrogen powered vehicles, its only emission is water. Drinkable H2O.No matter how small the number of available cars, this is still big news. As of right now, there are hydrogen Hondas out there in the hands of consumers. And this is only the beginning. It’ll be a while before they’re mainstream since we have to get a whole refueling infrastructure set up, but we’ve taken the first step. The future is now people. Toyota will get in on it, Mazda will ramp up the hydrogen rotary engine cars they have planned, everyone will start it up. Get ready for flying cars and laser beams.

KTM revealed today the racing version of its X-Bow sports car; the X-Bow GT4 Race car is a a fully FIA homologated GT4 Sports Light racing car. that features more than 30 changes compared to the standard version.Among other this changes includes: racing dampers, brake pads, catalytic converter and tires; carbon fibre windscreen extension; racing airbox design, extended rear bumper and many, many more. The X-Bow Race car is powered by the Audi’s 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers 240 hp. This will help the car to make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3,9 seconds and hit a top speed of 137 mph.The second special edition (next to the ROC) revealed by KTM at the Geneva Motor Show is the X-BOW Superlight. As the name says, for this special edition KTM focused on reducing the car’s weight. This was possible mainly because of the chassis made completely of carbon fibre. The X-Bow Superlight will be priced at 79,980 Euro (or a bit over $100.000 at the current rates). The X-Bow Superlight features a radical construction, without a roof or windscreen, and the omission of air-conditioning and an entertainment system. All this decisions were taken for only one purpose: weight reduction.Full details in the press release after the jump.Well, we can expect that it would be a real treat for sports car fans, the R4, a new striking mid-engined machine that Audi is planning for. The newcomer is said to be based on an entirely new platform and it sits above the TT in Audi’s range. The R4 is emerging as a result of a rumoured joint venture with Porche and this project will produce a new platform to support Roadster and Coupe versions of the R4.
With LED lights, deep air intakes and sweeping profile, it seems that the new Audi is quite visually inspired from the R8 supercar, however, this similarity is not just by chance as Audi

The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder SE is a solid entry in an otherwise dwindling segment. As crossovers become all the rage, the Pathfinder is one of the few offerings left on the market that’s still designed for buyers looking for a rugged, seven-passenger SUV that can tow and go off-roading.Just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, we’ve spotted the refreshed Ford Mondeo being followed by a Ford Fusion. Back in January 2009, Ford confirmed the next-generation Fusion would be built on the same platform as that of the Mondeo. While powertrain options are sure to differ from market to market, the Fusion-Mondeo convergence makes it less surprising to see aEuropean Mondeo-like vehicle on American roads. After driving Motor Trend’s long-term Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited over highways, winding roads, and in heavy traffic, I know I could recommend the SUV, but not without a couple qualifications unique to this trim level.
