The Honda Fit is a five-door hatchback subcompact car and manufactured by the Honda Motor Company of Japan. It was first introduced in June 2001 and is now in its second generation. The spacious hatchback will come with a single engine option for now - the techno-laden 1.2-litre SOHC iVTEC powerplant. The engine is good for a class-leading 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque. Despite this, Honda's techno-wizardry makes this a very frugal powerplant too - we haven't tested it yet, only driven it, but ARAI certifies it to be in the region of 16 kmpl. Utilitarian aspects of the car are key too, and the Jazz offers the advantages of hatchback compactness with near-sedan space.

The Honda Jazz is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The shift action is light, smooth and very direct thanks to the adoption of carbon-fibre synchronizers. Steering the car through city traffic or speedy corners is a delight too with a perfectly weighted steering wheel that is neither over-servoed nor of the rubbery wishy-washy kinds.
Speaking on the occasion, Masahiro Takedagawa, president and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd, said, "The Honda Jazz is a segment-defining car and is loaded with all the values that are associated with Honda. The Jazz will cater to a unique group of people who want the latest and most stylish models with the best of technology, safety and practicality in their car."

Honda Siel Cars India has built up a reputation for building cars that people want. They began with the City, and moved on to the Accord and then the Civic. They've set their sights on bigger numbers now, which means they’ve got only one way to go: smaller cars. Enter the Jazz, which Honda hopes will play its part in increasing their share in the Indian market.

Depending on the region, the Fit is available with a 1.2, 1.3 (in Europe referred as 1.4L model), 1.5 liter i-DSI engine, or 1.5 liter VTEC engine. All four engines are based on Honda’s L-series engine family. The 8-valve i-DSI (intelligent dual and sequential) engines use two spark plugs per cylinder, allowing gasoline to burn more completely; therefore, fuel consumption and emissions are reduced while maximum torque at mid-range rpm is maintained. The 1.5 L VTEC engine has the typical 16-valve configuration that can maximize output at high rpm.
US-spec interior

Honda Fit's L-series of engines also provides the castings and reciprocating mass for Honda Marine’s 75 and 90 horsepower (67 kW) outboard motors, the BF75 and the BF90.[4]

The engines are mated to a 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic, or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), depending on the region (CVT not offered in United States). Two forms of the CVT are offered: the regular, and the CVT-7. The CVT-7 offers a smooth, continuous flow of power, or seven simulated "gears" controlled by paddle shifters on the steering column.

The Fit uses Honda's Global Small Car platform, which is also used by the Fit Aria/City (a sedan version of the Fit), the Airwave (a wagon version of the Fit Aria/City), the Mobilio, and the Mobilio Spike.
